Subash Chandra Nembang: A Leader Who Broke Difficult Deadlocks

Kathmandu: Leaders from various political parties gathered at the CPN (UML) Vice-Chairperson Subash Chandra Nembang's memorial to pay tribute, expressing their deep condolences and acknowledging the immense void left by his untimely passing.

Nembang, who was also a Member of the House of Representatives from Ilam constituency no. 2, passed away due to cardiac arrest at the age of 71. He had served as the Chairperson of the Constituent Assembly and held the position of former Speaker.

Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairperson of CPN (Unified Socialist), remembered Nembang as a leader who demonstrated courage in overcoming obstacles and challenging times. He emphasized that Nembang's contributions would always be remembered and that the new generation should draw inspiration from his legacy. Nepal also highlighted Nembang's commitment to good governance and the implementation of the constitution.

Nepal acknowledged Nembang's pivotal role in achieving consensus and understanding in politics, stressing that his passing is a significant loss to the democratic movement, communist movement, and movements for change. He praised Nembang's exemplary abilities in promulgating and managing the constitution, describing him as a friendly, patient, soft-spoken, and persuasive leader.

Minendra Rijal, a leader of the Nepali Congress, noted that Nembang's absence would be deeply felt in the current challenging political climate. He highlighted Nembang's positive attitude, even in difficult times, and his dedication to finding ways to move forward together.

Barsha Man Pun, a leader of CPN (Maoist Centre), characterized Nembang as a balanced and mature leader who could unite political leaders during times of national crisis. He commended Nembang for his ability to bring diverse groups together.

The CPN (UML) General Secretary, Pradeep Gyawali, expressed the party's profound sorrow and described Nembang's demise as an irreparable loss to Nepal's communist movement, democratic movement, and the entire country. Gyawali praised Nembang's tireless efforts in support of democracy, social justice, the constitution, rule of law, human rights, and economic transformation. He highlighted Nembang's honesty, soft-spoken demeanor, and universal appeal.

Nembang's remarkable political journey began during his ISC studies at Tri-chandra College, where he was influenced by leftist politics. He fearlessly faced government hostility and incarceration during various political struggles and movements, including a seven-month prison sentence while pursuing his BL degree at Nepal Law Campus.

Nembang became a central member of the All Nepal Communist-Revolutionary Coordination Centre in 2033 BS, and his ascent in politics continued as he served as a Member of the National Assembly in 2048 and 2052, as well as the Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs in 2051. He was elected as a people's representative five times through elections held in 2056, 2064, 2070, 2074, and 2079 BS.

Subash Chandra Nembang's unwavering commitment to Nepal's democratic and political progress has left an indelible mark on the country's history, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
